AI-Assisted Pedagogy: Rethinking Assignments for an AI-Aware Classroom
Learn how to strategically evaluate and modify existing coursework to align with specific learning outcomes while explicitly accounting for AI’s capabilities.
Generative AI is transforming how students approach writing, problem-solving, and coursework, challenging traditional assessment models while simultaneously opening doors to pedagogical innovation. This hands-on workshop is designed to move faculty away from defensive, reactive containment strategies and toward an intentional, proactive assignment design framework.
Participants will learn how to strategically evaluate and modify existing coursework to align with specific learning outcomes while explicitly accounting for AI’s capabilities. We will focus on reinforcing academic integrity, fostering human creativity, and communicating clear boundaries using structured frameworks such as the Generative AI Acceptable Use Scale. The session will feature examples of practical assignment redesign and process-based evaluation models, ensuring that faculty leave with actionable strategies and a renewed sense of agency in navigating assessment.
The AI Literacy workshop series is an offering of the AI Collaborative Programming group, a cross-unit partnership between the Hesburgh Libraries, ND Learning, and the Office of Information Technology.
