Hosting a Static Website on Github and Netlify

OPEN TO:
-Faculty -Graduate Students -Postdocs -Public, Alumni, & Friends -Staff -Undergraduate Students

Learn to rapidly build and host a professional website for free on both Netlify and GitHub Pages platforms

Creating and hosting a static HTML and CSS website has never been easier. In this workshop, we'll download a free Bootstrap 5 personal-professional template and demonstrate how to use Bootstrapr.io to customize it. We'll then learn two workflows to upload it to the cloud: 1) Drag and drop your site to Netlify, and 2) Use the command line interface (CLI) to push your site to GitHub pages.

Prerequisites:

  • A basic working knowledge of HTML / CSS.

Ideally:

  • Some exposure to the Mac or Windows command line interface (terminal or Windows shell app) would be useful but is not required

Learning goals:

  • Learn to host a static HTML/CSS/JS website on both Netlify and Github Pages.
