R for Absolute Beginners

OPEN TO:
-Faculty -Graduate Students -Postdocs -Staff -Undergraduate Students

An introduction to R, a commonly used language for data and statistical analysis and visualization.

This introductory workshop aims to provide a quick “swimming” lesson to students, scholars, practitioners, and researchers who want to dive into the world of R.

R is a free and open-source programming language that is widely used for data and statistical analysis and data visualization. RStudio is a free user interface that we will use to write and run an R script and interact with our data.

After this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Confidently navigate the RStudio environment.
  • Create a new R script.
  • Write R code to perform basic math operations and assign values to variables.
  • Load in, look at, and subset a simple dataframe.
  • Know where and how to get help.

This workshop is for those who are curious about tools for analyzing or visualizing data, or for those who have heard about R and want to know more. No programming experience necessary – just bring yourself and a laptop!
