A Gentle Introduction to Unix Commands and Regular Expressions
Learn how to explore, create, move, and search files in the command line.
Ever wonder why the hackers on TV never use their mouse? In this workshop, we’ll cover the basics of navigating your computer using only your keyboard – or, more specifically, using Unix commands in the command line. In the course of this hour-long workshop, participants will learn:
1. What a command line interface (CLI) is, and why it’s useful?
2. How to explore, create, and move folders and files using Unix commands.
3. How to search text files using Regular Expressions.
No experience is necessary. Please bring a laptop if you wish to follow along. If you will be using a Windows machine, please install Git for Windows before the workshop and reach out to the instructor if you run into any issues.
