An introduction to numerous possible forms of audio assignments for classrooms, followed by group discussion and collaborative planning time.

Interested in assigning an audio project, but not confident about the process or the tech? This workshop is geared toward instructors who want to effectively incorporate sound assignments into their syllabi. Should it be a solo or a group project? Take six weeks or twenty minutes? Does the particular software matter? After an introduction to several possibilities for assignments and assessment structures, we’ll discuss and workshop assignment ideas in small groups.

LEARNING GOALS:

  • Discover and analyze how a sound assignment may enhance the learning goals of your course;
  • Learn about a variety of sound projects that could meet those learning goals;
  • Discuss best practices for structuring a sound assignment, from deciding its scale to determining its placement in your syllabus;
  • Review a range of assessment strategies;
  • In small groups, share assignment ideas and questions and receive feedback;
  • Share strategies for supporting students as they plan, create, and produce individual or group projects;
  • Review Notre Dame resources and supports for instructors and students working with digital media;
  • Emerge with a plan for a sound assignment tailored to the particular learning goals of your course.
